First of all Insidious 3 is a prequel and not a sequel, that is the movie takes place before the other two movies and to be honest this movie is kind of different. The movie takes off when Quinn Banner visits the gifted psychic Elise to ask for help to contact her late mother lilly's spirit. Elise refuses to help Quinn as she is afraid of an evil spirit that wants to kill her. The film picks up its pace when Quinn is back home after she met with an accident with broken legs and she expiriences the presence of someone else in the house. What happends next makes the rest of the movie.
Unlike its predecessors there is not much of a story in this movie, Insidious series were known for its creepy plots and brilliant writing but that is missing here. Although Insidious 3 relies completely on creepyness and the sudden scares, i must say the movie is really good. It delivers a good horror experience, sometimes better than its predecessors. Like i said the story is not the hero here, its the direction. Leigh whannel has done an awesome job for a debutant director. The creepy voices and the jumpscare tricks returns from the first two Insidious movies but the build up before every scare is really good. Even if the scares feel repeatetive sometimes, the build up covers for it and all the credits goes to the director.
Like i said this movie is different from its predecessors, with a different story line and different kind of scares. The movie reminded me of Indian horror classics sometimes where tha spirit tries to kill human. This time its not about posessing the living body for the spirits, its something else and thats where the film freaks you out.
This movie is one of the best horror movies i have watched lately. It made me grab my chairi, shut my eyes and ears and look around many times. This is something you dont wanna miss. The story may be old school, but the horror is awesome. I assure you this movie will scare the shit out of you.
my verdict- 4/5 for a must watch.
I would say the movie lacks a lot comparing its previous sequels, Chapter 2 included the demon's story which made the movie one of a kind and with all the expectations.. It ended up like a super hero movie don't you think? And the end of the movie used to give us hick ups and this time it wasn't much of a hick up for me. They could have done better, out of the 3 Chapters 2nd one is the best.

Deletethe first two had a totally different story line, so we can yreat that as a single movie.
When you look at this as a single movie forgeting the fact that its a prequel to something like insidious 1 and 2, you will like it.
like I said... its a pakka ghost movie and about the horror sequences it pretty much matched its predecessors and I agree, insidious 1 and 2 had a better story line but this one didn't disappoint me either.
